I don't know how many here were adults and regular track attenders when Seattle Slew was running.
I made his Preakness and had 2nd row seats near the finish line in the grandstand for his Belmont. I heard many times that New York day, "he may be undefeated, but he's no Forego Truth is that even I bought a little into the hype in his Triple Crown season that maybe he just was born in the right crop of three year olds. Heck, I had been spoiled by Secretariat four years earlier. That's why I so love that Seattle Slew became a top sire. It was his proof of greatness to his doubters. Sure hard for me to diss Alydar though. |

The question appears to be a no-brainer but after looking at the top race horses each sired if you took away one horse it becomes very close. As a sire of top of the line race horses I would give a slight edge to Alydar.
Who was the better sire, Bold Ruler or Native Dancer ? Which sire has had a bigger impact on the breed ? Bold Ruler is one son away from having little lasting impact and Native Dancer is a son and a daughter away from being a dismal failure. Back to the original post if I was to add Gone West into the equation which of the three would be considered the better sire ? |
