I didn't see anything that Michael Bradley did in the Ghana game to get blamed for a loss. Was he outstanding, no, was he the reason we lost, no. I thought he played well, not great, but well. DeMerit seemed lost at times, Bocanegra was bad as well. Gooch certainly wasn't healthy, but I agree Slots, that if he was out there, that last shot wouldn't have gotten off. I won't repeat all of my post on Bradley's poor coaching decisions, but why he constantly starts Findley is mind boggling. Same for playing Clark, any other midfielder out there would have been better than him. I feel he was the worst of the bunch we brought over to South Africa. Maybe I am just bitter that Holden didn't get a crack... |

AR - Findlay and Clark killed me on Saturday. Somebody - ANYBODY - would have been ok considering how those two played against Slovenia and England. Another thing though, and that is you'd have to think the 2009 version of Charlie Davies would have helped this team on Saturday. A lot.

I would rate Bradley as the 3rd best US player behind Donovan and Dempsey.
I would rate Bocanegra (who was at fault for the 2nd goal) as probably the worst player on the US starting team. He is woeful!

Is the 3rd best US soccer (football) player kind of like being the 3rd best Irish Basketball player?

That's kind of a dopey thing to say. More kids play soccer in the United States than any other sport. We have a top 15-ish ranked men's soccer program. We have players in Serie A, the EPL, the Bundesliga, and La Ligua. I know you're trying to be funny, but US Soccer has come an awfully long way.

Golf has gone an awfully long way on that business model.

Soccer still only gets the 4th, maybe 5th level of elite athlete in the U.S.. So, if you consider that, top 16 isn't so bad.

sorry to bust on your sport slotdirt, but not too many people care about it once they get out of high school. Shoot, a lot of good soccer players would rather kick field goals for football teams than continue soccer. My brother and I both grew up playing soccer.. along with baseball its probably the best sport to play as a kid. You dont get paid much playing soccer, and there isnt much fame to it, so all the top athletes move on to different sports. Coach is completely right. Plus, golf and soccer are apples and oranges.. you can play golf til you die.
