You have to be kidding? Have you never taken an American history class? America's proposed structure of a democratic republic was indeed an "improbable experiment".

I've heard it called a bold experiment, many times, but "improbable"? I think that's the first time I've heard it put quite that way.

Doesn't seem to be a very unique phrase when referring to the origin of our country. "America" wasn't viewed by many as an assured success in the beginning. Even the founding fathers had fears and doubts. A quick search shows others using the same phrase:
