2005 (the first Derby I ever bet)
I had 10 Win-Place on Giacomo...
Had Giacomo and Alex on all tri tickets....no Closing Argument.

2006 I made a bundle tying up English Channel and Barbaro in multi's.

2007 Made the Biggest win bet I had ever made (at that point) on Street
Sense...($200) also had small exacta w/ Hard Spun.
Would have made over 8k if Brilliant stays up over Sky Conqueror.
In the Woodford Reserve the race b4 the derby.

2008 I keyed Big Brown on top and paired him with Denis of Cork in tri's &
Supers....but I didn't like 8 Belles at all...cashed nothing.

2009 I was thrown into a tailspin like every one else when the 2 big horses
were scratched...I played Hold Me Back......which has lead me to be
Prez of the Kent Dedumbeaux fan club.

My father and I were watching that race from Laurel and we decided since I already had undervalued futures on Closing Argument and he had Giacamo and Alex futures we made a small tri and exacta backer with Bellamy Road on top of those three. Never considered even an exacta box with them.

I had Genuine Risk solidly "across the board" in a year when "across the board" was still a common wager.

God came to me in a dream and showed me that Plugged Nickel that was not going to win. I had already eliminated Rockhill Native.

God left me in my dream with "bet the filly."

I'm really not making this up. :-)

I had her SOLIDLY across the board.

I play the Derby differently than I play other races. I handicap strongly trying to find a reason for playing betting surprises in the Top 3 or 4.

And I usually make my Derby play my only play of the day. Except for one year when I was at Churchill when Groovy ran in an undercard race on Derby Day. I cleaned up then, too.

Since I attended the Santa Anita Derby this year and have pics and everything, I'd be thrilled if either of the two ML favorites did well. I'll probably buy $2 win tickets on each of them just to have for memorabilia with my Santa Anita stuff if they happen to win the Kentucky Derby.

But I won't be making plays that require them to finish in the Top 2.

I usually just try to make a fun play and then just sit back and enjoy the race, the nostalgia and the victory. I really don't care if I win or lose my Kentucky Derby wager.

I don't want $$ to ever get in the way of savoring a Kentucky Derby and a Kentucky Derby Champion.
