As much as the horse doesn't look like Forrest Camp, there is no way anyone thought he was getting a mile and a half on his best day... That said, the Kentucky Derby was certainly a well documented goal prior to the equipment malfunction in the Whirlaway... I don't know how anyone can take anything away from that - good or bad - so a strong effort in this spot would not necessarily discount a shot at the a TC race, namely the Preakness. In fact a Whithers / Preakness path is fairly sensible. |

No, there are not too many tracks closing--more need to close. The typically American (and idiotic) idea that more=better is so laughably and obviously wrong when applied to horse racing, it is hard to imagine anyone believes it. Trust me, I have more interest in the Wood than you: I've got a future book ticket from November on Esky (and Jackson Bend, for that matter--my other one was Buddy's Saint). So, I'll watch the race on TV, and not subsidized a gruesome card like this. If Aqueduct fails someday, then it does. Why should it be immune to the free market? The "great" horses will race regardless. |
