If this does happen, I'll be rooting for some other horse to win the race, mostly because it will be televised at a time where I'll probably not be able to watch it.

I would think anybody invited would go. What do you have to lose?? Losing to either of these is not a suprise, and if something flukey happens and you win, how impressive would that be?

Plus, what's 5th place worth here, $100,000? That's better than winning some big stake races!!

I don't think too many connections would pass on this opportunity.
