Rock music will beat out hip hop/ janet jackson / pop music any day of the week. I thought the Who was great.. except they looked ancient and sounded ancient.. (maybe the old bands should think about lip sinking).. Still their songs are great ones and the light show was the best of any halftime show i've ever seen.. I cant stand when these bands just fill the field with people or kids or whatever.. light show was great!! I'm sure Uncle Tom loved it!!

yeah I didnt think the Who were that great compared to previous years shows. They just looked really really old - If it wasnt for their great songs, it would have been a disaster..

On an unrelated note, this was my favourite moment from last night

While watching at one point Daltry's lips seemed to be a little out of sync with the audio. Was there a audio delay or were they lip-syncing?

It is not that unusual for the audio to be slightly out of snych with the video on a live performance.

I don't think there is any chance they were lip-synching. I don't think a network would allow lip-synching at an event like the Superbowl. Lip-synching is rarely done any more. It is considered a big no-no.

The last person that was caught lip-synching was Ashlee Simpson on Saturday Night Live and she got blasted for it. I think she claimed she had a cold or laryngitis or something like that. That was her excuse. She got crucified in the media. Lip-snyching is not considered acceptable nowadays and it is totally frowned upon.

There is no way The Who was lip-synching. I would lay 20-1 odds against it.

By the way, if you watch the performance again on youtube it is perfect. The audio is perfectly in synch with the video.

I actually just found a review of The Who's half-time show in the Chicago Tribune. It specifically says they "weren't lip-synching".

they were lip synching. it was glaringly obvious because he hesitated on one word, which came through on audio, but you could most certainly see he didn't say it on the screen. it was at the end of one of the songsl ines it wasn't a case of being 'off'. he was on til that one word.
as to why they do it, it's so there are no glitches in the performance. we've all seen times where bands flub a song. the anthem is pre-recorded, and so is half time.

Sure, Daltrey’s lip-synching was a bit of a blow to the gut — I mean, this was the band who always thrived on live performance.

However, I have to imagine the NFL is rather cautious these days about what they’ll allow and what they’ll forbid. I suppose lip-synching is a guarantee of a smooth performance with no flubbed lines, vocal imperfections or, more realistically, the possibility of a subliminally uttered message during the world’s most viewed sporting event.

regardless of the article, i know what i saw, which is what my husband and son saw.

there is no way the anthem was pre-recorded, Carrie Underwood was WAY off key. In fact the Who were better than Underwoods anthem easily.

didn't catch it, we had the tv elsewhere. but generally, it's pre-recorded so there are no missed lines. i remember when whitney houston sang it and everyone said they loved it-then they found out it was taped ahead.
it's no big deal to me if they do that, i expect in general that shows are taped. how else could some of the performers do so much dancing, etc, without getting out of breath?

In Queen latifah's, it sounded like the voice dub got delayed a little in the beginning.

Little Who trivia here..The song..Baba O'Riley, was named by Pete for two different people. One was the leader of a religion he was involved with at the time named Baba something or other. The O'Riley was for Terry O'Riley, who composed the synthesizer portion of the song.

i liked the Who, they did a good job. i just not a fan of the extended halftime crap. as far that goes, i'm not a fan of the 4 hr. pre-game crap. just show me the freaking game! and do a good job. all the freaking commercials. the game has no rhythm to it.
