Good Question. If your first choice is scratched, your 2nd then becomes your first and Alternate becomes your 2nd. If your second choice is scratched, your Alternate becomes 2nd choice. Thats a very Irish roundabout way of saying that your horses simply move to the left when writing in priority order..
