I am assuming he is entered because they are expecting a foot of rain over the next week and this might be on the main track against a small field?

Yep, they mentioned that in the DRF a couple of days ago. At face value, though, its still a ridiculous turn of events given the disparity between the two races involved.

Say he wins an off-the-turf San Marcos, next out he could be in the Big Cap. If he loses, he could run for $40k or less. As DrugS mentioned elsewhere in this thread, there's obviously a thin line separating a graded stakes horse from an allowance (in this case claiming) horse.
