Corey Brown missed by a nose last yr and by all accounts was disconsolate after the race, ends up winning the Cup 1 year later. I guess the lesson here is you have to experience 2 extremes to truly appreciate it.

Brown also mentioned She's Archie to the interviewing outrider immediately after the race as well. She's Archie ran on for 2nd in Makybe Diva's first Melbourne Cup win. If memory serves, She's Archie was a long shot, but might have been bunched in the field, deflating her price a lot.

You know I actually got lucky on the Diva's first cup, I think Dermot Weld had his great stayer in that race, the name escapes me at the moment, he took a ton of money. She actually paid around $20 to win that yr.
