How about two runaway winners of the Illinois Derby.....

Greeley's Galaxy and Sweetnorthernsaint.

I also don't remember much happening with Imperialism after his good third in the slop in the Derby.

And I hate to say it, because he was one of my favorites, but Officer might have to be thrown into this mix. It's hard to call a horse a failure that starts 9 times with 6 wins, a second, and a third, and over 800K in earnings. But given what he looked like in his wins, that he didn't train on was truly a disappointment.

Same crop, Johannesburg after winning the BC Belmont Juv beating Officer among others raced twice after that, 2nd to the good filly Rebelline in his 1st start as sophmore and then finished his career with a lacklustre derby effort. He had as brilliant a 2 yr old campaign as a horse I can remember having, however as with some 2 year olds he didn't carry that over to his 3 year old season.

Edit- Actually he raced one more time after the derby and was well beaten, then he was retired.
