They had 7 losses by 4 points or less last year which is tied for the second most in NFL history. Most of that was on the defense but expect their defense to be vastly improved this year with Dom Capers. First year with Dom Capers as defensive coordinator:

1992 - Pittsburgh - improved from 22nd to 2nd
1999 - Jacksonsville - improved from 17th to 1st
2006 - Miami - improved from 15th to 5th

If he can improve the Packers from the 22nd defense to the 14th that already turns 4 of those 7 losses into wins and makes them a 10 win team. If he does more than that and the offense improves it could be an 11 or 12 win team.
The Packers will be decent this year, only because their offense is awesome. That alone will keep them in games, but their defense is very questionable. A completely new system without a bunch of rocket scientists, where I expect them to get better later in the season, but it will be too late

A 3-4 defense is dependent on a stud nose tackle. I think BJ Raji can be that guy. Even if Nick Barnett isn't back 100% this year they will still have a good defense, if he comes back strong they could be really good.

Tom...it might be questionable....but they look very good defensively so far. I think there question mark is the running game. It wouldn't surprise me if they take the division. It also wouldn't surprise me if the Vikes fall to 3rd.

IT IS THE PRESEASON.

Personally, I think Packers and Bears fans love the fact that the Vikings got Favre, the Bears have owned him in his late years, and the Packers game will be epic because that defense is going to be so fired up, and Favre, regardless of what he says, wants to beat them BAD!!

So what I wanted to say was that I think Favre will do more harm then good

Bears are getting burned in the secondary. But I'm going to put that in the IT IS THE PRESEASON category, NOT!!!!. Granted what the Packers have played have been creampuffs so far, but so is the potential on the schedule. I'm going to go with Dom Capers history and their personel.

Actually I give them some credit for last night. The easy thing would have been to shut down the passing game just to make Favre look bad and let Adrian Peterson dice them. Instead they put forth the best strategy to win the game, namely shutting down Adrian Peterson better than anyone in 14 games and making Favre beat them. The officials took away their one INT on a terrible interference call and the D even came up with a TD. The Packers problem was not their defense. It is the giant gaping hole at LT. I thought #73 was the worst lineman I had ever seen, thought that at least until he got hurt and his backup came in. Egads. They should go sign Langston Walker, Jon Runyan, and Levi Jones. Between the three of them maybe they could find something better than an open door at left tackle.
