I think some have been a little quick to dismiss the vikings this year and that is a huge mistake. Say what you want about Brett Favre but he can still make big league throws and he has receivers with a lot of speed. Combine this with arguably the best running back in the league and you have a very high powered offense. The defense is going to get better simply by not having to be on the field as long.

Im not saying they are going to win the whole thing but they will contend...barring injury of course.

Defense may be on the field longer when Favre throws 28 picks the year..

Again, like Vick, Farve makes me McNabb..

at the very least, favre is definitely an improvement over jackson and rosenfels....

and then there's this:

The Vikings have sold more than 3,000 season tickets since news broke that Brett Favre was coming to Minnesota. That's in approximately a 24-hour span.

Free Draft Guide Chief marketing officer Steve LaCroix says the team has sold about 10,000 single-game tickets during that time as fans clamor over the arrival of the veteran quarterback.

Seats for the game against Green Bay on Oct. 5 are only available through a season ticket. There are roughly 7,000 season tickets remaining. The Vikings had to race to beat the blackout deadline for several games last season.

Merchandise is also moving. LaCroix said several hundred pre-orders for Favre jerseys were placed online Tuesday. The purple No. 4s were to show up in stores on Wednesday

They'd have made the playoffs with Sage Rosenfels at QB and probably still will do so when Favre is done by Week 8.

Entertaining press conferences and announcer compliments don't count in leagues, just wins and numbers. Expectations for Favre aren't that different than they would have been for Sage Rosenfels.

Ultimately, they are both high completion quarterbacks that throw too many interceptions. The Vikings should remain a run-first team, and Favre's pass attempts could drop while throwing to an average receiver group.

Plus there's the tiny concern that Favre is turning 40, hasn't worked out with a team all offseason, and couldn't convert deep passes last year.

shouldn't any mention of brett and last year come with the tag line '...with the jets'?

What's my tab with you? $100? I'll bet $80 against that $100 that the Packers win at least as many games as the Vikings this year. If you want we can split it up into two $40 against $50 bets and you can placate your Cutlerboner and have the Bears against the Packers in the second bet.

Aaron Rodgers > Bret Favre > Rex Grossman > Jay Cutler

You think the Packers are going to have more wins then the Bears?

Do you watch football?

Yes, and I think the Packers are going to be very good this year. Aaron Rodgers looks really good this preseason and I think he's going to have a great year this year finally having an offseason knowing that he was the man. They had 7 losses by 4 points or less last year which is tied for the second most in NFL history. Most of that was on the defense but expect their defense to be vastly improved this year with Dom Capers. First year with Dom Capers as defensive coordinator:

1992 - Pittsburgh - improved from 22nd to 2nd
1999 - Jacksonsville - improved from 17th to 1st
2006 - Miami - improved from 15th to 5th

If he can improve the Packers from the 22nd defense to the 14th that already turns 4 of those 7 losses into wins and makes them a 10 win team. If he does more than that and the offense improves it could be an 11 or 12 win team.

Those are sucker bets.

I will bet vikings vs. packers even up. If they end up with the same record, then the bet pushes.

50 dollars.

Deal?

Dream on. You read my posts already and know that you are so wrong with your raging double Favreboner and Cutlerboner. Unlike you the rest of the universe hasn't been privy to my point. And on Sportsbook.com right now they are offering Vikings +140, Bears +180, Packers +200.

Give me 1/2 a game and I'll take the bet.

Call me crazy, but how is that different than what they did last year with Jackson, then Frerotte, then Jackson again playing?? They won their division and made the playoffs. Does Favre really put them in the Super Bowl? On the plus side after his bicep surgery, they also found he has a torn rotator cuff. Call me crazy, but signing a 40 year old guy coming off bicep surgery with a torn rotator cuff for 25 million seems like not the smartest move in the book. Even when he had the great season two years ago he stunk it up horribly in the NFC championship game and he was not good last year either.

so just think what they could have done with a decent QB, considering what they managed in spite of jackson and frerotte. seems like 20 years ago when gus was in d.c.

Last 4 games last year....

Tavarias Jackson 57 of 89 740 yards 8 touchdowns 1 interception 115.4 quarterback rating...

Brett Favre 75 of 132 764 yards 2 touchdowns 8 interceptions 53.3 quarterback rating.

You'd have a real hard time convicing me that Favre is better than Jackson right now.
