Agnes Tachyon, son of Sunday Silence, dies at 11 By Alan Shuback Agnes Tachyon, the leading sire in Japan in 2008 and the best son of Sunday Silence to stand at stud, died of heart failure Monday night at Shadai Stallion Station in Hokkaido at the age of 11. "I am shocked into silence because his death has come so suddenly," said Shadai owner Teruya Yoshida. Out of Japanese 1000 Guineas winner Agnes Flora and a half brother to Japanese Derby winner Agnes Flight, Agnes Tachyon won the 1 1/4-mile Satsuki Sho, or Japanese 2000 Guineas, in 2001, after which a bowed tendon put a premature end to his racing career. Sent to the Yoshida brothers' Shadai Stallion Station, he sired the outstanding filly Daiwa Scarlet, herself the winner of the Japanese 1000 Guineas as well as the 1 9/16-mile Arima Kinen, the 1 3/8-mile Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup, and the 1 1/4-mile Shuka Sho, all Grade 1 contests or their equivalent. His best son to date is Deep Sky, the winner of the 2008 Japanese Derby and the NHK Mile Cup who will run in Sunday's Takarazuka Kinen at Hanshin. Dubai Shaheen winner Big City Man dies By Jason Ford4.28PM 7 JUL 2009 USA: Dubai Golden Shaheen winner Big City Man, the world's top dirt sprinter this year and beaten just once in seven career outings, is reported to have died after a workout at Hollywood Park. Three times a winning juvenile at Calder in Florida two years ago, the four-year-old went on to become one of the success stories of the Dubai Carnival after being purchasedby privately by Prince Sultan Al Kabeer and sent to Saudi Arabian-based American Jerry Barton. Big City Man won three of his four starts on the sand at Nad Al Sheba, taking the Group 3 Al Shindagha Sprint over 6f en route to victory in the Group 1 Golden Shaheen over the same course and distance on World Cup night, when he beat Indian Blessing by a length and a quarter. The son of Northern Afleet was transferred to the California stable of Jeff Mullins at HollywoodPark to be prepared for the Grade 1 Bing Crosby Handicap at Del Mar on August 8. However, Barton's assistant trainer reported on Facebook that the son of Northern Afleet had collapsed after a workout at the weekend. Big City Man suffered the only defeat of his career in the Group 3 Mahab Al Shimaal in Dubai in March, but his powerful Golden Shaheen victory next time out was rated the best dirt sprint performance of the season so far according to both RPR and official ratings.
