The Storm Cat session topper out of Awesome Humor was gorgeous, which goes without saying, but I thought he was better than the Tranquility Lake baby last year.....I wasn't a great fan of Awesome Humor but remember her vividly when Ronnie Werner had her ..she was actually a smaller more refined tyoe of filly and was actually a very cheap auction purchase when Mr. Durant bought her...
I was impressed with her baby.....very nice.. |

Best I saw go through the ring monday (individuals - Not pedigree sensative):
1) Vindication - Serena's Tune colt --- Gorgeous physical speciment and you could see shades of both Serena's Song and Seattle Slew in him....all class.. 2) Storm Cat - Awesome Humor colt--- I wanted to not like him but couldn't....as nice of a Storm Cat as you'll ever see and a deserving sales topper.... 3) Unbridled's Song - Wild Heart colt --- Looked like his daddy and how all of the good Unbridled's Songs look...maybe better looking than all of them that I've seen....with more family on the damside he brings a couple more million... 4) Tale of the Cat - Driana colt --- Unproven dam is what cost him being in the seven figures, but he was as good of a Tale of the Cat as you'll ever see....extreme athleticism....he was a bay version of Lion Heart.... 5) Mr. Greeley - Silvester Lady colt --- needs no explanation as to his looks and prescense in the sales ring, just look at his price...he was very flashy and athletic, obviously, but he had something else about him that drew you in...didn't look or act like a yearing out there... 6) Sky Mesa - Alida colt --- Best Sky Mesa I've seen and he was a very nice individual....might have been a solid sleeper for his price similar to the Tale of the Cat due to the fact that his page was relatively unproven... 7) Distorted Humor - Teaksberry Road colt --- He was the best Distorted Humor I saw all day, yet others sold for more because they were a bit stronger pedigree-wise on the dam side...Very, very good individual and obviously his owners felt the same way to buy him back....thought he would definately bring seven figures when I saw him enter the ring....watch for him down the road at another sale... 8) Unbridled's Song - Win Crafty Lady filly --- I know Harmony Lodge well and she is a better individual than her Grade 1, millionaire sister....best filly in the session IMO...yes, better than the Take Charge Lady filly and A.P. Warrior's half-sister IMO... *Note: I'm not the greatest sales prospect evaluator on earth and these are just opinions on the ones I liked...If this interests you, I would suggest writing down the dam's names and researching these babies' names early next year before they are about to start their racing careers...Obviously, they are all '05 models and can be researched to keep up with if you have the right resources....I really enjoy doing this after the Keeneland Sept. sale every year and I find it fun and intriguing to see how right I am as far as their ability when and if they ever race....Plus, it may give you something to wager on when each of these horses debuts, especially the ones I thought were sleepers! I'll tell you this, I've actually had relativey good success since doing this for fun....For example, last year I thought Scat Daddy, who Pletcher bought two rows in front of me with some lady at the end of day 1 last year, was one of the top 5 individuals in the first session of the sale, and he turned out to be one of the top juvenile runners this year as only a $250,000 purchase underneath 40+ seven-figure lots to go through the ring last year.....Take it for what its worth...obviously, I've picked out some horses that never made it to the track too, just like everybody else... ![]() |

)Moccasin Gap f. Giant's Causeway - Lemon Dove - won at first asking at Woodbine Divide and Conquer c. Mr. Greeley - Diversion - won at first asking at Hollywood Most Distinguished c. Dixie Union - Stylish Storm - 2nd to Pegasus Wind when he broke his maiden at Saratoga, had a real dog fight in his second start, getting 2nd Kauai Calls f. Fupeg - Collect Call - broke maiden at first asking at Saratoga also took an allowance later in the meet thirtysixth f. Dixieland Band - Steal a Heart - 3rd in first start, bought by Zayat ******* I am eagerly awaiting: Indy's Windy f. A.P. Indy - Banshee Winds - sold for 1.9M, training in CA...I would have given my right arm to own this filly! Shining Armor c. Mr. Greeley - Shining Through (dam of the talented and ill-fated Venetian Sunset & Strong Hope) As for me, I really like Mr. Greeley as a sire. I think his biggest problem IS his auction prices...he's not very commercial but he will get you a runner. If I were buying for myself I'd find me the best Mr. Greeley or Dixie Union I could afford. Well priced runners. |
