Seriously, Dell, I have said, repeatedly, in the other thread, that just because I admire both men for their interest in and understanding of the middle east, it doesn't mean I agree with all their foreign policy positions, or that I think all their foreign policy positions are correct. This whole thing arose because of discussion regarding Obama and his familial Muslim ties through his estranged father, and the great acceptance of his Cairo speech in the Muslim world. Are you just unable to understand that subtlety?

And btw, Colin Powell isn't even close to being "a lefty" via any objective analysis - his patriotism not withstanding

Bill Maher (who I can barely stand) said something good on CNN, and darn if I don't agree with Bill Maher on this one (this from the CNN website):

"Part of the problem is that we don't really have a progressive party in this country. We have the Democrats, who are what the Republicans used to be when I was a kid. They are a pro-business party; a corporate friendly, pro-business party. And then we have the Republicans, which are just just a club for angry white people and Jesus freaks. I don't know what they are."

[That Obama is moving the country towards socialism] is "so ridiculous because Barack Obama is not a socialist, he's not even a liberal. That's the point I'm trying to make. This country needs a left-wing. It doesn't have it.
So really what we have is a debate between the center-right, the Democratic party, and the far, far, far right, the Republican party. "

I would add that the 30% or so of the GOP that left last November to vote for Obama would return to the GOP, gladly, if the GOP returned to what they used to be, what I've known my whole life.
