Thanks jack. My real wrap up just occurred over on the Oracle or gander thread. If you really wanna know what it feels like when it closes, read that. Its the only time of the year when you get to see friends both near and far just about every day for 6 weeks. People put aside reality and whatever else to make sure that they are there. The rest of the year you may see friends at certain gatherings but its only once in a while and never in an atmosphere like that. Its pretty depressing. 5 1/2 weeks ago after the Jim Dandy I went out to dinner and then went swimming at a late night bbq party with friends at their house around the corner. The older you get the more you realize just how great a warm summer night like that is with the beer flowing and splashing around in a pool with friends after a great day of racing with another one on tap for the next day.
There will be football gatherings, baseball gatherings, and big race day gatherings still to come. But sitting in a house earing jeans and drinking beer watching tv while its cold outside and getting dark early can never in any way compare to what goes on here. Ask anyone who comes here or lives here, its not the races in the afternoon that matter. Its the warm and sunny mornings watching the horses workout, and the nights with friends. You can't get that at any other place.

Default The Saratoga Meet

As Usual It Is Over Rated .. Some Good Horses ..a Lot Of Not So Good Ones .. Small Fields In Big Races Was The Norm .. It Is Only Your Arrogance That Keeps You From Realizing That This Meet Is No Better Than Any Other New Yawk Meet, Give Me This Belmont Meet Coming Up..it Is The Best Bar None.. Sackatoga ,thank God It Is New Yawk, So Its Ego Driven Meet Stays In The Least Part Of The ****ry

Well 13 grade one races in one meet is the most of any meet in the country, even though its only a 6 week meet. The stars are on display.
I won't argue that with the expansion to 6 weeks that cheaper races are run more often than they ever were.
But I really don't think that if the meet was as you describe it that so many folks would come from so many places to be here for it.

You also forgot to mention that average field size went up this year and is very likely higher than most tracks....

They wouldnt get that or care about it Sightseek. Once these West Coast diehards get on the soapbox its pretty comical.
I havent't even looked at Dle Mar's card tomorrow, I swear. And I will make a a line right now
over/under on cheap claimers or maiden claimers 4 1/2
Now I will go and look.

Well,I don't mind the cheap claiming races at Del Mar nearly as much as the MCL25K races (regardless of Calbred, or open.) I will tell you this though.Given the choice,I will try to wade through those races before I would touch those New York bred slot machine races.Even the NY BRED allowance races. You got that cheap Delta Sea pinballing in form, and beating horses by 5 at 8-1.Those NY Bred Turf races are all insider races.Folks, when they say the races are restricted to New York breds, you're best off to heed the warning, and only bet them if you yourself were bred there.I imagine they are a Godsend for those on the inside getting tipped off when cheap horses pinball into good form, but it really is better left to them. Now you add in the most crazy biased track in America(Saratoga,)and you have a game of BINGO.I am not a huge fan of playing races at either Del Mar,or Saratoga.I DIDN'T PLAY Toga, and played very little at Del Mar this year(still a little pain from BIG JACKSH#T losing the 7th by a nose yesterday, but it was a minor ticket.)The New York racing would be much better to bet on if they had an escape from New York breds P4,but that ain't gunna happen unless it's one of those nice big days.LIKE WHEN GARRETT GOMEZ F'D UP TM BLING,AND COST ME HUGE.Then he poors acid on my wound by saying atleast the horse learned something(even though he kept him intimidated the whole damn way.)Play where you like. For me,New York bred racing is like watching the Prarie Meadows,or the Indiana tracks.

I know the feeling.

I didn't miss a day at Keeneland for years.
Would go in opening day and out closing day.

Was in with a great group of horsemen, horsepeople and sicko gamblers.
Those were the days.

Everyone has pretty much scattered around the world now, and it just ain't the same.
