That is a shame. I had a few i-conversations with Darren. Nice guy, good racecaller.

Former Waikato racing commentator Darren Tyquin, 41, died in a car crash in Christchurch early this morning.

The crash happened off SH1, about 12.45am, after the car he was in failed to take a bend. Mr Tyquin died at the scene.

A passenger in the car was taken to Christchurch Hospital with moderate injuries.

Mr Tyquin was a popular race caller in the Waikato before moving south to take over the duties of Reon Murtha when he retired.
