Be still, my heart.....
It doesn't say much but always a thrill to be reminded of the greatest horse who ever lived. The one, the only, the quirky yet brilliant (and really, really naughty)..... http://www.sportinglife.com/racing/n...ING_Rakti.html (sigh) |

Quito misses the Ayr Gold Cup, from sportinglife
Quito will not be asked to carry top weight in the totesport Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday. Trainer David Chapman has ruled his popular performer out of the big Scottish sprint he won in 2003, as he feels his charge would be carrying too much weight to be competitive. As a result of two recent successes Quito had incurred an 8lb penalty taking his weight to a welter 10st 6lb in the six-furlong handicap. "We definitely don't go," Chapman said. "He has a trailer to pull. "When you see the entries and he's a stone above plenty of good horses it's asking a lot." The nine-year-old appeared slightly below par when seventh of nine behind Iffraaj in the Group Two Park Stakes at York on Saturday and will now enjoy a short break. "He had five quick races and it has just bottomed him so we shall just give him time to bounce back," Chapman said. "We just went too often with him. "To be quite honest I thought he was that well I even gave him a bit of work on Saturday morning. "I always give him a bit of work but I thought he's had enough racing he surely doesn't want any work. Anyway that's what we always do so we did the same again and you couldn't fault him. "I don't think he'll need a lot of rest it's just a case of waiting for a race for him - there's one or two at Newmarket and there's a Listed at Redcar that's been transferred from Doncaster." Quito had been a general 16-1 shot for the Ayr Gold Cup
