how many people posting on this thread have actually used their gun to confront an intruder?

just raise your hand.

now all those with overwrought paranoid fantasies about the dangers of the world and the need for all of us to arm ourselves, please just continue exposing your friends and family to one bad judgement.

i guess i don't get the reference then.

i took it as "easy prey". which would be odd if you don't actually own a gun yourself.

are you a big leonard cohen fan and just randomly post his song titles?

what did you mean?

Bird on a wire dies slowly over a period of time due to the current encased
by the wire they roost upon. In every situation in life, one should be prepared
for any challenges.

i don't know where that rumor got started.

if the bird completes a circuit they die instantly.

otherwise, all of us live in a "nest" surrounded by electricity.

do i need to be worried about my lamp now?

I kilt a big frggn rat eating my neighbors dog food.
With BB gun. I shot him in the anus. He hobbled.
I then was able to approach and shot the rodent
in the head. I threw the beast over the fence.

It was not a good day for anyone.

Remorse spread quickly amongst the
gentle folk.

I will now retire to my place of slumber unarmed.

but it's ok to have overwrought fantasies about your neighbor owning a gun, and how that's sooo dangerous?
i've had guns around me my entire life. happy to say that my siblings all grew up safely, as have my kids. not one shot fired in anger. can say the same for my extended family, as well as my husbands...

i don't have any fantasies about it one way or the other. but i'm no more comfortable in losing that right as i would be any of the others we're supposed to have guaranteed to us.
if you don't want a gun, you don't have to have one. i'm not forcing ownership on you, and i'd appreciate if you not literally force your feelings about it on me.

mine isn't an overwrought fantasy.

it's a fact. anyone owning a gun is more likely to kill an acquaintance or themselves than a stranger.

the fantasy is that the problem lies in the stunning lack of guns in this country. we just haven't armed ourselves well enough.

anyone here that wants to protect their family would be better served by getting rid of the guns in their house.

that isn't a personal attack. it's a statistic.

like i said somewhere above, since most murder victims know their killer, you're right. i have no idea tho the #'s of folks killed accidentally. i also read and posted on here that 55% of gun deaths each year are suicide. but our suicide rates are in line with other countries.

at any rate, this thread has been a long one. props to everyone for keeping it relatively clean...
at any rate, i doubt any minds were changed one way or the other- or that they ever will be.

I never have, but could have used one when I was robbed at gunpoint!

Eventhough running away screaming and crying was probably a better option than pulling out a gun and challenging the homeboy to a fight.

You need one of those derringer harnesses that release into your palm when trouble shows up! Yeah...that's the ticket.

it happened at like 4am July 4th (well technically the 5th by then). We had a KEG of jack n coke... so I was very much not sober.

I called the cops (they didnt do anything but I reported my purse (which had my wallet, phone and all ID's and passport in it, stolen) and when the cop came to talk to me I was like "I wish I had a gun I would have shot him!!" (not a good thing to say to the cops I imagine)

But yeah... no point in getting into a gun fight when I can just give him my purse and run!!

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,498445,00.html Maybe we need to take a closer look at the dangers of television. I'm not advocating an all out ban, but maybe there need to be more restrictions, or at least a waiting period and background check prior to purchase.
