This isn't exactly true. They made him a low ball offer that if he accepted, they would have been happy to keep him. In reality, they would not pay what he demanded because his character issues and potential for problems were not worth the risk.

Im sorry but your facts are wrong. They would not pay what he demanded because they had to pay ward as well who was a year away from free agency. The steelers werent going to pay two receivers that kind of money.

Essentially it came down to a choice between ward and burress and they chose ward. The right choice.

One of the major reasons they chose Ward were the character issues. They signed Ward the year before Plax could become a FA because they were more comfortable with his character. At that time Plax appeared to have the larger upside.

Again your facts are wrong. They didnt sign ward's extension until a year AFTER Burress had left.

They signed Ward because he was the best run blocking receiver in the NFL and the Steelers were the most prolific running team. They signed ward because he was more productive than Plax. Its as simple as that.

If he had such character issues, the steelers wouldnt re-sign him at ANY price.

Here are Plaxicos stats:

Here are Wards stats:

Notice the years both were in Pitt. Ward was just much more productive not to mention a better blocker.

I guess in a sports discussion you cant point out when the other guy gets their facts wrong. I will have to remember that.

"You can believe me or not but the descision was made in the Summer of 2004 to keep Ward and only resign Plaxico if they could get him at below market value."

Is this not a way of saying....we don't want you?

Although I know a ton of players do sign for below market value.

They let Kendrell Bell go that year as well. Was that character? How about Joey Porter the year before last?
