He has never gone beyond a mile and there is no real reason to think the increase in distance will do anything but hurt him. When you throw in the surface-switch and the fact that he doesn't seem to be in the exact same form he was in when he rattled off those G1s this spring/summer, I think he is very unlikely.

This race is simple. Neither Curlin nor Duke of Marmalade have the turn of foot to pass the other. But both have the guts to hold the other off if they take the lead first. So whoever passes Fairbanks off the turn and gets to the lead first is going to win. Figuring out which one of those pinheads will realize that is the priceless question.

You are assuming that Duke of Marmalade will like the track....

He's probably as good a chance, if not better, than Curlin to take the track. I think this track equalizes everyone, turf or dirt, but I don't buy that there are many horses that don't take to it at all.

32.5-1 on Champs Elysees would be a gift. . .

For me, I can approach it three ways:

From the turf-synthetic positive correlation angle, and upgrade the Euro's Raven's Pass, Duke of Marmalade and Henrythenavigator(perhaps do a 3 horse exacta box). But, their trainers have a poor history shipping in,none have a synthetic race under them or listed works.

Lone speed is here in Fairbanks. But, he, too, is untested on synthetic, and fared poorly in his two turf attempts, so I won't bother with this disappointment underneath in my exotics

I'll go with an exacta box of the steady Curlin, (training here and whose shame was a 2nd in a Grade I grass race) with Casino Drive, who is the X factor. He is 3-3, has a win at the track, and blew away Mint Lane as easily as Big Brown did

I'll be very interested at how the odds will end up in this race, and the rest of the Cup races
