One of my better ones as well. Ouija Board big on the turf, then kept betting the 1 on the dirt.

I think Arazi was favored in the Mile, even though he had established he was toast numerous times during the course of the year.

Caltech I think was favored in the '89 Turf. He was an allowance horse that won the Bud International. Somehow, Euro horses that had ran decent races in the Arc, had prior Group 1 form, and came from two of the biggest stables in France (ie Star Lift and Sierra Roberta), went off at ridiculously huge odds ). They ran 2-3 as Prized won the race at 5-1 or so.

Can't remember if she was favored, but I remember Ragin Fever's performances getting worse and worse (despite winning) as the distances got longer during her 2yo campaign.

Yeah, the BC Mile has a record of puzzling bettors. Gorella went off in '06 as the 3/1 lukewarm favorite, even though everyone knew how vulnerable she was.

Wasn't Araafa the favorite that day?

Either way, I totally agree. The Mile is always the toughest for me to figure out and the public seems to have the same problem.

This sounds bad after he won the year after, but IMO Artie Schiller had no business being the favorite in the Mile at Lone Star in 2004.

The bad fav this year will be whoever is favored in the sprint... Lute or Fab strike would be my guess.

Yes, I checked the BC stats, and it was Araafa (finished 9th) that went off at 3/1. Gorella (finished 7th) was second favorite at 7/2.

I've never been more sure of a favorite losing a race as I was with Rubiano in the 1992 sprint.

oh, and groovy against very subtle, that had to be the least likely win by a favorite in BC history.

What about Riboletta in the '00 Distaff? Left the gate at 2/5 and finished 7th in a 9-horse field. Spain was the winner at about 55/1 (whoo, I would have liked some of that action).

Riboletta was a desrving favorite. She got injured in the Distaff from what was reported.

Just now saw this
Miesques Approval won the Mile.

EC ran in the Turf all 3 attempts and never went to post as the favorite.

Mogambo, 1985 Juvenile. Hated Aqueduct, loved Belmont.
