Absolutely amazing...Lava Man will win the BCC if he holds his current form, this is the same crap I heard about another "late bloomer" a few years back, and unlike that one, Lava Man can get out of his own way on the turf...at least I think that's what being a grade one winner on the surface indicates...that horse that I mentioned? Oh yeah, he went on to win a few more races in a row and did it all over the country...still he was beaten in California by a "non-grade-one-type"...maybe he wasn't any good either?? These same haters probably would agree that Cigar is overrated...right??

I love it when overrated horses win because posts like these are always the outcome. Comparing Lava Man to Cigar? Wow.

Overated horses don't win four Grade I races on both surfaces, and six races in a row. I take it that you were probably one of the ones that thought that LITF was overrated. I really do wish you were right. He wasn't overrated...he had cancer.

They might be listed grade 1's but to me the gold cup and pac classic were nothing more than grade 3 races due to the quality of the fields.
So far, the older male division in racing this year is comparable to the 1994 MLB season in terms of quality.

The same with Invasor's Surburban. That wasn't a true Grade I field now was it? See, you can play this game all you want to, but it only goes around in circles. Invasor has beat nothing of Grade I quality all year. He almost lost to Sun King for God's sake. Don't give me that FA crap either because FA isn't the same horse that he was last year.

I guess the Jockey Club should downgrade those three big GI races to GIII races because of the fields this year. I can't wait to see Evening Attire or Danthebluegrassman give the GIII Pacific Classic a go next year since they're so obviously GIII races.

Or we could just call Lava Man the greatest horse since Secretariat. Does that work for you? I know it's on the opposite side of the sarcasm meter but i'll be damned if I let you be the only smart ass in the thread.

I agree that the Suburban was a crap race as well. The whole division reminds me of the Heavyweight division in boxing. Lackluster and no clear cut champion(s).

To be quite honest I am far more impressed with the crop of two year olds and not to mention Gorella. She's an amazing animal.

That I can agree with. The two year olds seem to be outstanding, and I think that we still have a really good group of three year olds despite all of the injuries. Gorella is the mare. I have liked her for a very, very long time.

I think he was pointing out the fact that most people called Cigar overrated at one point in his career. If Lava Man wins his next ten starts, will he still be overrated? If he jumps through burning hoops for you will he be overrated? The horse has won 4 grade ones in a row... I sure as hell wouldn't mind having him in my stable.

Does this horse remind anyone else of Seasbiscuit, or is it just me? The stories are quite similar, at least, as far as the actual horses go. Both claimers turned stars with more heart than the rest of the field combined. Both Cali horses hated by biased East Coasters that don't want to give credit when credit is due. This horse is turning into an absolute legend right before us. When his career is over, if it ends good, they need to write a book about him and his story. For all you lovers like me, enjoy him.

Whose to say that Lava Man won't kick the East Coasters especially if he runs back to his top number in one of his East Coast races? His career isn't over yet. He still has a lot of years left unless he injures himself. Seabiscuit beat War Admiral in the fall of his five year old year. It isn't impossible for Lava Man to win the BCC if he comes. I think he MIGHT can beat Invasor, and if Bernardini doesn't fire, who knows? I do think that the horse will hit the board if he comes.
