This guy actually is "Presidential" without being overly pretentious tonight...I hadn't seen his talking points before so I probably got a stronger version but the guy was pretty good.
it was a new and improved laundry list of lofty promises that democrats have offered up since humphrey. government will do everything for you except wipe your ass. he'll track down bin laden, get us of off mideast oil in ten years time without relying heavily on drilling, equal pay for equal work, tax cuts for all, college education for all, an army of hew teachers with higher salaries, more sick days and paid leave, protect social security and pensions, health care for all, jobs to stay in america from now on, address climate change, change americas moral standing, defeat al qaeda and the taliban, prevent iran from getting nuclear weapons, curb russian aggression, etc, ad infinitum. of course it isn't possible, where in his vast resume of accomplishments does one find the faith that he has any clue about how to bring about any of these changes? what has he ever done/acheived other than build a cult following?

He is giving you a chance to believe in change in this country and that alone will get my vote as the "ole and in the way" is not getting it done....

He can't do this stuff, because your party is gunna fight him in Congress.
That's why it isn't possible. You know that, you make it impossible, and then you claim he is the one who can't do it. It's mainly a leadership position. I don't blame Bush for not being able to privatize Social Security. HE DIDN'T HAVE THE VOTES TO DO IT. Not like he didn't want to do it. He didn't fail to do it. He was kept from doing it.

If he wins the presidency, and his party controls both houses of congress, he won't have any excuses, HE WILL HAVE THE VOTES. What can Republicans do to stop him? Bush had trouble with Social Security because he did not control congress.

I think the Repubs have the right idea when it comes to Social Security. If I was 60 years old I could feel different though.

the first is an impossibility. people think oil, and they think of the gas station. everyone, look around your house. look at your computer you're sitting at right now....how much plastic do you see? no doubt everyone knows that plastics are a petroleum product. the dream that we can 'get off' oil is unrealistic...the argument that it won't help us right now if we drill is true, but had we fought that argument better a few years ago, we wouldn't be in this situation now. there's no reason for us not to access the natural resources we have sitting under us.i read in the paper the other day that obama essentially wants to keep bushes tax and budget ideas...but he says that he will cut taxes, and raise taxes on the 'rich' to pay for it. in other words, our deficit will grow.
equal pay for equal work sounds wonderful...problem is, everyone thinks they work hard, when in fact many don't. then there's experience levels...in other words, many reasons why people make what they do. our free market takes care of itself, and needs in many cases less intervention rather than more from the govt.
new programs cost new money-where will he find that. i'd love to have a leader come in and promise to be better caretakers of our wealth, and to make an immediate and lasting attempt to cut all the fraud, waste and abuse we have nationwide. hospitals in cali (for example) were taking in homeless folks, saying they had diseases they didn't have, 'running tests', etc, and billing the dogmess out of medicaid, medical....we're talking hundreds of millions of dollars in those instances alone. that's outrageous. cut the waste, and we'd have more money for legitimate needs.
the pork needs to go, the line item veto needs to be instituted. robert byrd doesn't need any more buildings named after him, he has plenty in west va for his legacy.
more teachers with higher salaries...wonderful. i saw that one of the districts here in ark gets over '$5k per student each year to teach them. that's an obscene amount of money. and we have smaller classes than in years' past, and more teachers' aides to help with less per class. ridiculous. and we don't have the grades/act scores to show that our public school system is working, even with all the additional staff to teach our kids.

exactly how is he going to give tax cuts to all, and boost spending? just what we need, more govt. that's my #1 issue with democrats, too much revenue redistribution. take from the haves, give to the havenots. pretty soon more haves will be joining the latter group. the have nots want what i have ? do like me and my husband, get your ass to work like we do, and you'll have it too.
