Pedro looks real old and Maine is hurt. Loshe is a better pitcher than you give him credit for and he is durable which is something that teams need right about now.

At one year $4.25 million he is a great deal. Boras wanted 4 years - $40 million from the Mets though which is way too much for a guy that has never had an ERA under 4.18 and was coming off two pretty terrible years. At the time I'm sure they were also expecting more than 0 starts from El Duque. I thought him and Pedro would at least get us close to a season combined.

I bet you Minaya wishes now that he was paying Loshe 40 million over 4 years as opposed to the 4 year 25 million contract that he gave to Castillio. Just awful!

That one never made any sense to me.

I used to think Omar Minaya was a move up off of Phillips. I am starting to wonder.

This offseason will be a big one for him. They are free of Pedro, Alou, and El Duque and should have about $45 million to spend if they bring back Delgado. If they buy him out for $4 million then they should have $50 million to play with. Unfortunately at that point their #4 starter will be a guy in AAA with a 5.00+ ERA. If they resign Oliver he'll take up a decent chunk of that $45 million and they'll still need a fifth starter, tons of bullpen help, and likely another OF. If he blows this offseason then it's time to move on. No one can be worse than Phillips though, Kazmir for Victor Zambrano trumps all.

My favorite was when he leaked to the N.Y. press that Todd Hundley (their leading hitter) was a drunk and then evenyually ran him out of town. I still can't believe that he is an analyst on ESPN, it just blows my mind. But then again I put on NASCAR this weekend and Brad Daugherty was the analyst, go figure!
