Fact is, he has his eye on the oddsboard. He is simply a better rider on a 6/1-9/1 horse than he is on chalk. That leaves Bejarano and Gomez. There is no way I would trust Rosario to ride a horse who is chalk. There is a lot of money to be made at TOGA, but there are a lot of good riders there trying to get it.

i beg to differ, you have 1 good rider out there.... Bejarano (and Baze if you wanna count No Cal), and even he (Bejarano) came from back east. The only reason why Rosario Dawson is 2nd in the standings is b/c he competes against the Baze twins, John Court and Joe Talamo.

It will be interesting too see how much Gomez takes away from Bejarano's mounts at Del Mar, Frankel likes them both so.....

as for Rosario... i'd rather have Channing Hill and a coke any day of the week

The riding colony in Southern California is horse racing's version of the "Island of Misfit Toys."

I fail to see why it's important where Bejarano came from. I guess if you want to say where it'd be from it'd Peru. He and Gomez will be dividing up the best horses, and Rosario will keep bringing in the horses that other people can't bring in. Then, he will not be able to bring in horses Delgadillo can bring in. Un huh...Un huh...

my point is, that Gomez can race against tougher jocks and not be the first call guy on everything back east, where the jockey colony is deep. Or he can go to So Cal and compete with Bejarano for all the best mounts..... I guess in the end, my point is the left coast jockey colony is not that good and i can understand why he's headed back out there.

Then, he will not be able to bring in horses Delgadillo can bring in. and i i know what you mean about that one, i also had Rosario in that race last weekend as well

Does anyone seriously think he is leaving because he just aint making the money out east? This is strictly a family, comfort of living move. I am sure he can clear 10 million a year out east with or without pletcher having a great year, how is he doing so far this year with pletcher down?

It was more the family part and living conditions....the number is a little ambitious.

Aside from the $10m number, that's it -- period. Gomez is not going out there because it's easier. He's not going out there for prestige. He can go out there because he wants to and it won't affect his business in a negative way. He's not really a riding title kind of guy, he's more a leading money winner jock kind of guy. Did the Pletcher factor come into play? Maybe yes, maybe no. Does riding for Baffert appear to offer a great opportunity right now? Doesn't look that way.

Family, lifestyle, comfort, whatever you want to call it. He made this move because he wanted to, not because he had to.

Bottom line -- this guy can go anywhere he wants and he'll be a top jock.

Eric

Have you watched Rosario ride? Even McCarron said last weekend that Rosario is the next great So Cal rider. I think that is a heck of a compliment coming from one of the all time great riders ANYWHERE.

Rosario can ride any type of horse on any surface from any part of the track. He is fearless and can race ride with the best of them. What are your knocks against him?

watch him ride a chalk...... then get back to me. He still makes stupid mistakes, and just b/c McCarron says he's the next "great one in so cal" doesn't mean he's automatically the goods. The colony out there sucks and he's 2nd to Bejarano by like 30 wins. A lot of people said Talamo was the next great one as well.................... cricket

i dont remember those comments about Talamo. As a matter of fact, i dont remember those comments about anyone in the last few years.

i dont judge riders by how many wins they are behind the leader. I judge them on what i see during the race and what i see is a kid who can do it all.

He cant ride chalk? blahhhhhhh. i want to see stats on that. Do you have stats on that? I look at ROI. What is your ROI betting flat on Rosario during the last meet? And he cant ride?

probably the most overstated opinion of the year and we're only in July. Do you actually watch the races out west?

Really I haven't seen anyone riding today that will make us forget Jerry Bailey, love him or hate him he was a great rider in all the aspects of race riding.

Ie. Judging pace, riding on turf, sprints, routes, applying pace pressure on horses and having just enough in the tank to hold off closers coming from behind....and finally the intangibles as in having the innate abilty to see how a race unfolds before the gates are even open. These other guys have a long ways to go from what I have seen to match the guys of the recent past...ie..Stevens, Pincay, Eddie D, Mccarron, and Bailey...

Yes, I watch the west coast races regularly. Which angle do you want? The valdivia/ellis angle off the layoff? Espninoza/monteleone on the dropper? potts/mullins on the jumper? Or do you want me to go back a little bit to pincay/spawr?

If you dont think he can ride, thats fine. I can keep getting prices on him.
