All indications are that the 2009 season, which will run for 6 weeks (Sat and Sunday only) will be the last. The county has already drawn up all of the plans to demolish the track to make 'room' for more soccer fields, although the net land gain will be pretty small. Typical Tucson short-sightedness, in my opinion, as the goal is to attract some major soccer tournaments, and the land around Rillito really isn't congruent to all that is needed for major tournaments, such as some sort of freeway access, hotels, close dining, etc.

Really sad that one of the great small tracks, which still boasts attendance figures of over 10,000 during the meet, is going to be demolished like it is nothing.

That sucks. I bet Martial Law in the Big Cap at Rillito the year he won and it took them about 20 minutes to round enough money to pay me. Cool little track.
