In that article in mentions that it was created to thwart "private bookies" in 1970. How much of a problem was that before 1970?-and compared to now?
Personally I think y'all need an off-course tote monopoly and on-course bookmakers. Down the Australian route rather than the British or Irish-but tracks could take a leaf out of the British book and have a pitch auction. Everyone wins. Entry fees to tracks stay low. Thousands of bettors will return to the tracks....

I assume only NY residents can get a NYRA Rewards account.
So, net of rebates: 1. non-NY bettors will see higher takeout on NYRA races. 2. NY bettors will see higher takeout on wagers on out of state races. Right? Something for everyone it seems. |
