He will never have a better chance at a grade 1, IMO. He couldn't catch that Zito horse after setting those fractions fending off BB and Tale of E. He's not quite Dollar Bill status yet but I'm not crazy about these type.

Setting what fractions? Da'Tara was loose on the lead on a (potentially) speed favoring track. Denis ran a decent 2nd - I don't see how it was disappointing. I've liked this horse since his maiden - I'm a fan and I've bet him in every one of his races except for the Ill. Derby - but he's not worthy of winning a G1.

denis had to have been compromised by a slow early pace. hell, the whole race was slow.
as for zaftig--it's a damn shame when the acorn can only get four horses to run.

I have to disagree, if the timer is correct and as I already have said I am a very sceptical person...a 26.44 final 1/4 and not cutting into that from a horse that won one mdn win to his name after running 2:03.21 for the 1 1/4 has to be termed dissapointing from the clearcut second choice and 3rd place finisher in the derby. Well it was for me!

Okay maybe Da Tara ran the race of his life, but when a horse with his previous form 1 mdn win runs wire to wire in honest fractions especially for this crop of horses, you would expect Denis of Cork to atleast catch him in the last 26 and 1/2 last 1/4 mile. Great result yes that the TC gods made the right decision, but this Belmont will be remembered as the worst since Commendable last won it.

Commendable was like Easy Goer compared to Sarava and D'Tara.

Not really - D' Tara had it all his own way and was staying on well enough.

DoC has never really been a big finisher through the stretch.

I'll agree on DOC not being a big finisher, he had no excuse from my vantage point, he was closer to the pace yesterday than the Derby and had less to do. But still couldn't pass D'Tara as they crawled home. I doubt any of these horses would even make Jan Rushton's watch list.

The criminal(ologist) gets my vote. One of those horses that throughout is career when ignored ruins me but when played is MIA as he was yesterday. JR and Frankel had to be disappointed. Playing Chester on the grass paid again as frequently seems the case just ask Hooves'
