I know, It didn't help but that is not why he lost. but this was the first time that encountered a little trouble. He looked very uncomfortable out of the gate.

I've been watching racing since my sister and I beat each other up over Easy Goer and Sunday Silence. It feels strange to me to feel glad that Big Brown lost but in this day and age, I was happier watching Evening Attire finish second yesterday.

I'm an agnostic, but today's events might just turn me into a believer.

It was the best possible result--the horse is fine, but the piece of crap on two legs is utterly humiliated. What more could we have hoped for?

Note to Rick: Run race THEN run mouth next time.

Big Brown is latest footnote in thoroughbred racing history. Let's hope that some late bloomers arrive from this year's 3 year old crop. Da' Tara's sire, Tiznow, was late bloomer winning two Grade 1 races, Super Derby and Breeders' Cup Classic, in 2000. Tiznow repeated as BC Classic winner in 2001.

And somewhere -- wherever the racing gods live -- there was unabated laughter at this comeuppance. Karma's a bitch, babe, and so is the Triple Crown.

I guess Barbaro, Eight Bells, and countless others must have been deserving of "bad karma"

no, there's horrible things that happen in racing, like the above, and there's bad karma. dutrow is definitely a victim of the latter, thankfully big brown is not a victim of the former.

ESPN interviewed Bill Mott earlier in the day about having trained Boundary. He said that Boundary had similar foot problems and was sure that BB's issues were hereditary.

Aside from the obvious distain for the trainer/connections, the Gods may have been making a point to get the attention of the Breeders, in particular Three Chimineys, who reportedly inked a 50 million dollar agreement w/ IEAH before the race....

In fact, the Racing Gods just thought "Big Brown" wasn't an appropriately classy name for a Triple Crown winner. That's what did in Funny Cide and Smarty Jones, you know.

(I'm surprised they let "Omaha" slip through, but you know, maybe the regular Racing Gods were out sick that day.)

Huh??? These horses died from "excessive heart" disease a condition caused by competing to such an extreme that their lives would be the penalty. BB may have that heart but hasn't had to completely empty his tank when a result was in doubt.

Dutrow just sucks the heart from the game and all that is good about it and for that my friend eternal warmth will one day be his very own.

The next time tricky ricky wins with a horse off the claim with a 2-3 month layoff ask yourself why the price is so short and the percentage so high and you'll have your answer why Dutrow deserves to relive every moment of yesterdays 11th from Big Sandy every single day of his miserable life.
