They put that filly on the market because they thought she was one of Mineshaft's best yearlings and they wanted to generate some buzz for his September yearlings .......I doubt her price is only due to the family. I don't think anyone is going to spend big bucks on yearlings that don't look the part

Actually, horses are registered as "sold" for big prices that don't actually change hands - all the time. It is not uncommon for the owners of a first year stallion to run a weanling or yearling through the ring - have a friend sign the ticket - while never actually parting with the horse.

I was just suggesting that this particular filly was not the absolute best physical specimen at that sale, and if her sale was legit, it had as much to do with getting a filly from that family as anything else.

I agree with this assessment 100%. I wasn't impressed with that particular filly compared to several others that I saw.

http://www.fasigtipton.com/catalogs/2006/0808/171.pdf

171, this filly is 3x3 to Seattle Slew.
the catalogue does not show she is 3x4 to reines de course Lassie Dear.
she is 3x4 to Mr Prospector, 4x5 to Buckpasser.
she has a 4x4 Secretariat/Sir Gaylord cross.
she has 10 lines of La Troienne
she has 3 Somethingroyals

she could very well be the best bred horse in the sale while running the risk of being overbred. her coefficient of inbreeding is 7.29%. anything over 5% needs closer review. which i'm sure the buyers did.

Which is precisely why I DON'T like her. She's overbred all to hell and I'm not impressed with that.

In my opinion, it was almost as if this breeding took place in hopes of a filly. I know Tesio and others would inbreed intensely into one of their foundation families and hope for a filly... it seems these intensely inbred fillies often made exceptional broodmares when bred to an outcross.

Probably a risk I wouldn't want to take. It seems that the ones that are overbred like that are extremely highstrung and fragile. I wouldn't want that in my barn, but what do I know? These people have been doing this for a long time, I'm sure.

absolutely. her breeding future calls for an outcross, possibly to another intensely inbred stallion. possibly ?

No, Courtlandt Farm signed the ticket. I'm sure Will Farish has a lot of friends in the industry; are you implying that he has participated in something underhanded? Sheikh Hamdan was the underbidder. If he had signed the ticket, would you be saying that a "friend" did? I don't understand why it's so hard to believe that this filly would have gone for as high as she did. You may not like her, but more than one person did, and I rather doubt that every single person viewing this filly had nothing nice to say about her looks.

I think it's a matter of opinion about conformation. It's very hard to see what she looked like because the video streaming is no where near as good as seeing her up close and personal. Based upon the video streaming, I wasn't impressed with her. I don't think anyone was saying that NOBODY at the sale liked her. Evidently, she was liked if she was bid on as high as she was.

The Saratoga vid is horrendous. Its not so much the quality of the video that bothers me (Kee isnt much better) but its the angle of the video. You really cant asess a horse properly from a video, but that angle makes it damn impossible.

Either way, she would be a shining jewel in anyone's broodmare band.

Yes, I couldn't get a good view of any of the yearlings......not close up by any means.
