i doubt the small field some felt would materialize in a few weeks will really occur, much like the preakness is shaping up much larger than originally thought.

there was a horse not too long ago who only won at belmont, no where else. i could see betting him there, but with his record elsewhere, you'd be crazy to include him. that's not a horse for a course?

Horses for courses is an overused cliche but it's true with certain horses.
Silver Train nearly broke the track record for six and a half the first time he ran at Belmont on July 2,2005. He followed that up with winning the BC Sprint and Met Mile the following year.

Here's a crazy thought. If the Japanese come for the Belmont and send it in like they did for El Condor Pasa in the Arc a few years ago, could Casino Drive be favored in the Belmont over a Big Brown going for a Triple Crown sweep?

Also, I'm sure the trainer's phone was ringing off the hook immediately after the race, with agents looking to secure the mount. Any sense as to whether they will use an American rider or will Take come for the ride (assuming Desormeaux may be otherwise tied up)?

Not to get in the middle of this great debate but I wanted to throw my opinion in. I think it is absolutely great that the japanese brought this colt over to try and win '3 in a row' with siblings. Purses are much larger over there and just think it is sporting of them to come over and try it out.

Unless I don't know what the real reason is....

From a breeding perspective I'm sure he'd be worth much more if he won some big races over here than in Japan. . . The purses there are huge but the competition is weak(er) and the breeding industry isn't as big. . .
