My mistake, thought you meant the other horse from the 5th.

Haven't posted here in awhile, but I had to after Casino Drive.......although why am I not surprised that he didn't get that good of a Beyer ? Wouldn't you think that running 1:47 and change would be sufficient for at least triple digits?
I think this is a case where the numbers don't tell the whole story. Casino Drive hadn't run in almost two months, had to deal with an extremely long trip and also quarantine. His trainer didn't even feel that he'd be all that sharp today. I was pretty much WOW'D by his race.......He didn't break well at all, but the colt just dragged Kent up into the race; you could tell he had running on his mind. Then, he went between horses like it was no big deal and took off - no loafing, no cause for worry, no anything. Casino Drive looked great in the paddock and was full of life, bucking several times, but I didn't think he'd run like that (though I hoped he would in my dreams). |

I think it's a mistake to get caught up in the fig. If Throat is correct and there is a split varient it was still a fine performance by Casino Drive. These were not top quality horses he faced today but he was impressive in how he defeated the competition. Especially since it was his 2nd career race and first race in the US. He looks like a real racehorse with upside potential and should give Big Brown a challenge should the big horse take care of business next week.

also answered the question of whether casino drive would handle the belmont surface.
i doubt the small field some felt would materialize in a few weeks will really occur, much like the preakness is shaping up much larger than originally thought.

NYRA will need to provide windows with Japanese speaking clerks-otherwise the betting on the day will go into meltdown.
I reckon there were 10,000 Japanese who went to Longchamp to see Deep Impact. Longchamp provided 2 windows for Japanese bettors. Average length of each line was 200 during the day-possibly peaking at around 500. Combine that with a possible Triple Crown attempt by Big Brown-thousands of 1st time bettors and once a year people...plus any protestors outside or inside the track....
