get out of your cubicle and imagine having to go outside (to get to my basement, no interior doors) no TV or radio and the air horns going off at 2 in the morning, total darkness outside and all you can hear is the wind, knowing that if it hits anywhere nearby you are totaly, completely f*cked....and enjoy the water that is pouring in, onto the floor through the hundred year old limestone walls. And don't forget to save the dogs.

It isn't like I am going to see a tornado, run straight at it and maybe want to play catch with someone right in front of it, just would like to experience the raw power/sounds that it provides, without endangering myself. |

not trying to argue with you here Tom, but I think you are missing the point somewhat. Since I have lived in my current location there have been 2 tornados that have touched down within 5 miles of me....they don't conveniently happen during the day so you can watch and see what's happening...and they destroy lives and property. The last one killed a whole bunch of animals that were trapped when the barn they were in fell on them.... while it may be a thrill to see one rip through a corn field, you have to consider that it just ruined someone's crop (ie earnings) for the year....they are never without consequence.

I understand the "nature's fury" thing but how would you feel if you chased a tornado into a town and it flattened everything and killed hundreds? Would that rush still be there? Now...have a nice weekend ![]()

I would feel horrible if that happened for the people that it effected, but it isn't like I could control it. I couldn't stand in front of it and say "STOP NOW" I would love to go to africa and drive around in one of those humvees around lions, tigers, rhinos, giraffes, elephants, those things kill also. but they are controlled to a point |

I think there is a misscommunication here.
I am not WISHING for tornados or HOPING for them. But, if I were to go to the middle of Oklahoma during May/June/July, the probablity of seeing one is probably quite large. I am not sitting outside every day and say "PLEASE O LORD, please praise this day with the wrath of a cyclone" Spyder, been to Niagara Falls, not really that cool. |

If you really want some fun, come down for the next Category 5 hurricane. Traffic heading south will be light. How long did that earthquake last the other day? 10-15 minutes? Not fun but try 110 mph winds for 6 hours straight. I can say I've ridden one out. It won't happen again. |

Its the awesome nature thing. I think lightning is absolutely awesome. Have seen lightning strike a tree and my wife's car just in front of me at a traffic light. My daughter learned expletives from my wife. I got to see the air around their car glow purple. They were crying too much for more thorough questioning concerning the event. I was not hearing well anyway. Its clear they did not find it fascinating. The people in the neighborhood next to us that got ripped by a small tornado were not curious either. I understand. Its interesting. |

But yeah, that is scary with the tornados at nite. At least with hurricanes we know they are coming, pretty much where they are coming and when they are going to hit. Not that we don't get the tornados with them but at least we have more time to prepare. I hate when we are getting severe storms and tornados predicted and all you can do is wait and watch. We don't have sirens in my area, we live too far out of town. Disasters suck! |
