Funny Cide is being considered huh? Interesting. If that happens it would mean two Kentucky Derby winners in the same race. It has been awhile since that happened. Does anybody know the last time it happened?

Alysheba and Ferdinand? Not sure, just guessing. Anyone know?

I have this really depressing vision of all the non-KY Derby winners blowing past those two... Who knows, maybe with Sinister Minister in the mix, the pace scenario will fold and Giacomo will have another big run...but you know I'm pulling for a certain Cali horse.

I'm pulling for that same Cali horse too. I want him to win, but I may just see if there is a good price on a few of the other horses and try to beat him or just play exotic bets. He won't be worth betting at that price, and I think that he is vulnerable in this spot. He may be tired and not 100%. We will see. I do, however, think that he is a better horse this year than he was last year. The Hollywood Gold Cup showed just how much heart and determination the boy has.

Agreed. I worry a little about the way Ace Blue nearly caught him at the end, but then again he did almost land on his nose leaving the gate, and he didn't have his ideal trip. Still, I agree that he gutted through that race impressively. Here's hoping...

No he isn't. That is just false information. FC is probably going to run in a small stakes race at Saratoga. The Owners just say stupid things like he is looking at the Pacific Classic. I love FC but he can't compete with the top horses. He would run in the Whitney anyway before shipping out West for Del Mar's equivalent.

I can say with total confidence that Funny Cide is not being considered, never was, for the Pac Classic. Not sure where this info came from. I'd be shocked if any of the owners said it with any real conviction. Funny Cide has an equal chance of starting in this weekend's Whitney as he does in the Pac Classic...NONE.

Was really hoping that Surf Cat would be healed up in time, but I guess not.

No one knows when the last two derby winners faced each other? Just wondering. Good trivia question.

I really can't think of one after Alysheba and Ferdinand in '87. But certainly it has not been that long!! Did Unbridled and Strike the Gold maybe tangle in the fall of '91? So few of them race past their 3yo year that I suppose it is possible that that it hasn't happened since the '87 classic. Which is certainly a shame....look at what a great race that was!!

Wasn't that an awesome race? I can't believe that it has been that long! One day maybe, but like you said most aren't racing after their 3 yr old year.
