The standard room at the Monte Carlo leaves a lot to be desired, but the suite I had was quite nice and reasonably priced.

This was 4 years ago, however.

I remember being very dissapointed with the hotel. Our room was tiny. I also did not think that the restauraunts were anything special, because we ended up eating away from the hotel the entire trip. It just seemed like ever other hotel we went into was so much nicer. Also from what I remember (it was at least 7 years ago) the sports/race book was extremley small too. Maybe S't hole was too strong of a word, but my wife and I were very dissapointed.

You are correct..the resturant choice is minimal. MGM hopes you will visit the other ones like NYNY or MGM for the better choices. Like I said the Monte Carlo will be the first to be revamped once City Center is done...not my fav place..except the bar at the entrance had a good IPA beer!!!!

Most of the Casinos have down sized the Sports Books..not the money maker the slots and table games are... MGM is small and difficult viewing..NYNY is very very small... Mirage is OK . Venetian is a good one (not an MGM property). Best use to be the Stardust, before it was imploded...Old School at its best.

I just got back from a weekend at Ceasars Palace and they had a fire in the basement that filled the upper floors with smoke. Pretty scary stuff if you are old enough to remeber the MGM fire in 1980.

I've stayed at the Monte Carlo a couple of times. I'm not crazy about that end of the strip. I much prefer to be down in the Caesar's Palace-Mirage-Harrah's part of the strip, but the rooms at Monte Carlo are pretty much the same as any place else that I've stayed. Monte Carlo is a mid priced hotel. Not the worst and not the best. I've never stayed at any of the up scale places like the Bellagio or Venetian or Mandalay Bay, but I can't say that I care too much. I usually don't spend a whole lot of time in my room anyway. For the money, if you like space, stay at the Rio. They have spaciouis mini-suites. Drawback to that though is that it's across the freeway from the strip.

can sleep when I get home.

I dislike New York, NY

What kind of room were you in? I normally get a Broadway Deluxe and ask for and 90% of the time get a corner room with views in 2 different directions. Bigger room with the 2 views is a pretty good deal.

Their standard 'run of the house' rooms are ok (been in tons better), but if you've got an MGM-Mirage players club card, you should never end up in those.

Best I've been in is Wynn.... rooms and especially the beds are extremely good (I travel alot and almost never sleep well the 1st night away from home... except for Wynn). I normally stay there or on the south end of the strip (normally NY-NY). Rooms there are good and the location's great.
