I think I will be paying a visit to that gallery on the next dark day. There's nothing like someone speaking about which they know nothing.

Their press release shows a real understanding of racing when they said " Barbaro, winner of the Kentucky Derby by the largest margin of victory since 1946, was considered a shoe-in for the Triple Crown and the English Derby. "
Nothing like someone desperate for attention. Shame on NYC for allowing this type of desperate attention getting crap to get public funds as well as a public display. I also liked his other sculptures.....Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Prince Harry. What a phucking opportunist. |

Art is art....and the artist has the right to express himself as he wishes. The people in the wrong are those in NYC that have granted him public funds and public grounds for exposure.
Hopefully it is not too late to bring this to the attention of the right people and have this mistake corrected. |

Correct... he can do what he wants in his own private gallery but not on public money/lands, ESPECIALLY mine and ESPECIALLY this subject.
Only slightly less disturbing than the "artist" who collected his own "shots" as "art". http://news.softpedia.com/news/Sperm...en-76190.shtml

Unbelievable. One of the sickest things I have seen.
RIP Barbaro, and please forgive pathetic humans such as this 'artist'. |

For anyone who didn't bother clicking on the link, his other "works" include.....
" a nude Britney Spears giving birth on a bearskin rug, an interactive autopsy of Paris Hilton with removable organs, and a war dead Prince Harry clutching the cameo-locket of his late mother Princess Diana. I have no problem with the way an artist chooses to depict his subject... freedom of expression. That said, this ain't art. It's an attempt at shock, propaganda, and it uses and belittles the memory of Barbaro and his fight for life, demeaning it and wrapping it up into a little package for the non-racing world to see. Eight months of heroic deeds and this is the "artist" they choose? This is the "work" they okay? Shame on them. I have a story and I've wanted to post it but there was never the appropriate thread... I think this one will do. After a horse i loved broke down, i was telling a friend about him.... a profesional, guy in his 40's, educated... we had never talked about racing before. I was stunned.... he actually said "so they shot him on the track?". He was serious. This world we live in... these people that don't follow racing... they don't know. They don't know at all and they never will. Where i live racing has such a bad rap. So while i like to think the good people of New York, my home town, won't be suckered in and fooled by this kinda **** I wonder..... Rest in peace, Barbaro. What A Lost Texan said..... |

"It was reported that in the end, Barbaro was biting at people before he was finally allowed to die with dignity."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he a 'bitey' type of horse anyway? It is ridiculous how people get this stuff turned around.

I don't know, feels like there are quite a lot of far sicker things out there. It's art....whether we like it or not. It's opportunistic....which seems to be what this artist excels at.
The City also shouldn't allow a memorial for a stricken animal in Central Park to be used in this manner and tying Barbaro to it makes little or no genuine sense. The people behind this are stealing this opportunity in a manner that simply shouldn't be permitted by the City of New York. |

It's a political statement tied to Barbaroslaw - questionable in my mind about permanent installation in the park.
Wonder who are this gallery's best patrons? If any are NY racing people?
