Hell of a run by Commentator.
What was the track record at the distance prior to this?

Actually, I've been wondering for awhile now when Zito would come to his senses and realize that this horse cannot be competitive sprinting against top notch sprinters.

His game is mile racing. especially in races devoid of any real speed burners.

I'd like to see him run in races like the Met mile I suppose.

There are very few stakes races at a mile and only about two of them have been run while he was racing sound. One was last year's Met Mile and for him to have made his debut in that race, off almost a 10 month layoff, might have been a questionable choice. The other was the Cigar Mile in 2004 which might have been a good idea but hard to say.

Finding races for this horse is hard....but keeping him sound is obviously harder.

No arguments from me on either point, but still, those races seem perfect for him.

I can't remember, has he ever tried mile races on turf? Turf at all?

It's hard to run him in turf races with his kind of talent. It's just not what you do.

Frankly, it's a tribute to the stable that they have been able to continue to get him to the races, all things considered, and that on any given day he may run extremely well.

Why not? Heck, try to find a grass course that favors speed, I could see him being really tough!

Better than going in a 6f race against quicker horses where he has little hope, or going in a ybred race for very little money.

Zito is a guy whos horses often run well below expectations when he runs them on the turf - and he doesn't go to the turf with his horses as often as others do.

Something I found odd about Commentator when I looked at his pedigree - in search of grass breeding.....is that his mother Outsource was an unraced $14,000 yearling who was foaled in 1998.

Commentator, her first foal, was foaled in March of 2001. Seems like Distorted Humor got his dam when she was a early 2-year-old.

I'm with you here in asking "why not?" I don't understand that comment Andy made. What does it mean "it's just not what you do"? Don't you do what you want to do with your horse? Forget about traditions and long held beliefs. Have an open mind to at least try different things. Putting him in races like the BC Sprint and the Forego should be the things that you don't do when it's extremely obvious that that's not his game. His game is in races of 8-9f (remember his Whitney?) where he's more likely to be able to control the pace and has the stamina to finish. If there aren't many mile races on the dirt for him, what's so wrong with at least trying the grass? It's not like if he fails, his career is over.
