Very sad news. These fair democratic elections they're planning are obviously a long way off.

she had been suspected of corruption, i believe that was what caused her to be the 'former' prime minister to begin with.
the bombing didn't kill her, i just read that she was shot twice, in the neck and chest, and then the shooter detonated a bomb, killing himself and 20 others.
of course you have to take a look at musharaf, who will try to hold onto power at any cost--he is saying islamic extremists, but what else would he say??

an already volatile region will be that much more so after this. more are already dead due to violence after the assassination...

it's a shame tho that political differences can cost you your life. she should never have gone back, she had to have known this was a very real threat to her life to return to pakistan.

Virtually any information out of places like Pakistian is shady at best, complete lies at worst. Americans must realize that as biased and flawed as our own media is, that most of what we hear as the general public about places like this and people like her is b.s.

I do know that if she was the enemy of people who blow themselves up then she probably was closer to friend than foe.

i hope they're able to figure out who was behind it. a damn shame tho.

I think its naive to see this as anything other than a political assassination.
even if it turns out that it was actually carried out by "extremists", al qaida, etc. It happened with the tacit approval of Musharraf who made sure there was no security for Bhutto.

The election should go on imo, Musharraf would be routed. But everyone is advising that it would be too chaotic to hold the election. don't let the thugs win.

The General is more helpful than anyone else in that region. I believe there are far worse alternatives than him, especially considering that they have nukes.

Would you rather fine individuals like Ahmadrnejad or Saddam at the helm with Nukes? The idea that democracy as it is known by us is going to take hold and everything will be ok is foolish. The fact that most Paki citizens support Bin Laden makes me question the gov't that they will elect. It is obviously a complex situation that no one on this board really understands because as I said before ALL information and news from places like this is shady regardless of whether it is CNN or the BBC reporting it. The evil forces of the world know how to manipulate the masses via the media just as the legitimate govt's do.

The bs coming out of there today saying that the lady was killed by hitting her head was obviously a message to someone because it is not the kind of thing that would be released without a reason. That they determined her death without an autoposy makes this "news" suspect. The reasoning behind it being introduced in an international press conference is the question. Dead is dead, death by bullet, bomb or head blow is just semantics.

well obviously not.
the problem here is whether the country will descend into anarchy and civil war, which is quite a problem considering they have about 100 nukes lying around, and al quaeda would love to get them.

You won't see anything informative on CNN, Fox or the networks, that's for sure. All you'll get is the two word sound-byte, "islamic extremists," uttered by politicians and analysts. Try BBC or The Jerusalem Post if you care to actually learn about that part of the world.

Funny, how when this kind of violence was going on in Ireland for decades, it was always political. Things haven't changed too much.

As an aside, Haliburton held up well in yesterday's sell-off. Imagine that.
