Looks like they have a death grip on the poor dog. Notice the way Mrs. Huck is pinching the dog's throat. Poor thing is probably trying to run away!

1. Is he holding the dog's paw?

2. Why isn't the dog wearing one of the, ummm... "outfits"?

3. Did the dog run away right after the picture was taken?

Wouldn't you run away too? The poor dog probably thinks that they are going to eat him.
