I have no cat/dog/chicken/bull in this fight but how doesn't the 5 come down there behind the 3. Is it Garcia's fault for calling fault on the 1 and not the 5 or when they call for an objection it is just about the race in general?

The incident that you're talking about I believe happened after the 1 played bumper cars with the 3. I have no idea why Coa was not taken down. That was clear robbery. He was inside behind the weakening 2 and decided to whack the three to get position. Then, after getting through he comes out on the 5. I will never understand what goes through the mind of stewards. As it turns out I would have been beat out of the pick-3 with the 2 winning the 9th, so it really didn't matter anyway.

IMO looked like Coa and CourtVision slammed both the 3 and the 5.

It was a great ride by Coa(at least the finish of the ride). There is kind of an unwritten rule that if you are trapped you can do a lot to get free as long as the horses you smash are not win contenders. Had the infraction been against the 6 Atoned maybe he comes down.

Much the best horse.

I don't think so, it was more Cornhelio f'n up the whole race. If he isn't there Garcia gets a clear run on the outside, and the 1 would have had to mess around inside.

Without having to relive this debacle by going back and watching it again, first off he never even sniffs the rail breaking from the 3 post with a speed horse, then he allows himself to get "blind-switched" (harness term for not realizing someone is coming on the outside, and getting trapped) by Cornelio.. then due to anger or embarassment (my opinion only), he forces his horse into a tiny whole, risking his and the horse's well being. Their is a big difference between patient and clue-less.. had he been just being patient, he would have let Cornelio go and just swung around him.

I think Garcia did a bad job of settling the horse after the first turn.
He was taken a little wide by Castellano(on the 2 springs road), but then you see some stop-and-go action which was not very smooth and actually caused his horse to clip heels with Atoned.

I like his choice to stay off the pace. No way Big Truck competes at 9 furlongs as the pacesetter. Once he got the horse to settle, he momentarily had a decent trip, and he was actually given the opportunity to come on even terms entering the far turn. Everything went his way as far as the pace. He just had a terrible setup being locked in behind Atoned ,Springs Road , and inside of Trust N Dustan. When the pace slowed - everyone got on even terms...

Not a whole lot Garcia could have done. Maybe if he "sensed" the traffic jam and went very wide at the end of the backstretch... Thats asking a lot of any jockey.

I said it last year about the flavor of the month of that time, Fernando Jara, and people wanted to argue with me. Alan Garcia has a great agent and is proving the point that most people have no idea what constitutes a good rider. Garcia loses with more horses that should win than any rider I have seen in my lifetime. Any imbecile could win with the horses he wins on....but most would win with more than a few he loses on.

I agree...seems like he started getting Coa's mounts from Contessa back in Feburary - March when they had an apparent falling out....the guy starts winning at a 14% clip and all of a sudden his agent gets all the live mounts for him and he the next "second coming"....He's not as good as one would think, look at his record prior to 2/07.

So Davidowitz' is clueless?

Alan Garcia is a special case. He already seems to be among the top two dozen jockeys in America in very few years of competition. This year, Garcia rode Lahudood to victory in the Grade 1 Flower Bowl at Belmont and the $2 million BC Filly and Mare turf at Monmouth. He rode Shakis to a Grade 2 win in the Bernard Baruch at Saratoga; Dance Away Capote to a Grade 3 score in the Noble Damsel; Makderah to win the Grade 2 New York BC Handicap; and Flashy Bull to win the Grade 3 William D. Schaefer Handicap on the Preakness undercard. Most of those victories were for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin, who similarly sponsored Fernando Jara to major successes aboard 2006 Horse of the Year Invasor. While Jara lost his confidence and slipped out of the limelight in 2007, Garcia seems more polished.
