Many great memories when I got there as well. Seeing how amazingly beautiful it was. Calling the Flamingo Stakes. Pistols and Roses. The grey horse of Marty Wolfson's whose name escapes me. Watching the Flamingos fly once a day before the feature. The wonderful old school press box. The great Cuban food just outside the gates. I should have never left Hialeah. Even though it eventually closed I wish I'd stayed till the end. I left to call Golden Gate Fields because it was closer to home. That was a mistake. A truly GREAT racetrack in it's day. |

[quote=v j stauffer]My best Hialeah memory is standing in the announcers booth at Yakima Meadows and getting a call from as guy named Bob Savage. Bob was the director of marketing at Hialeah and he offered me the announcers job. I drove 3712 miles in the next five days to arrive in time to begin the meet. Seemed like it took half a day. I'd have walked If I had to.

That was a mistake. thanks vic, that was so nice to hear, i believe the horse you were thinking of is forever whirl winner of the 1993 ohio derby and one of martys first real good horses. i believe he either bought or claimed it for about 25-35k. i remember bob savage well, and also realizing how good you were right from the get go at hialeah. by the way was it mihramadi that took your place? and how do you like working with him now on tvg. i notice some um? friction? |

Vic, good to see you posting more, like your Track Champion days.
I like when you and Frank work together, it isn't uptight like it is with others on TVG sometimes, you guys just have fun like you are at the track BS with friends. It also helps that both of you have a clue when it comes to the horses also. |

What are you guys at TVG going to be covering when South Florida racing goes to Gulfstream? Has TVG pursued any greyhound racing, or Jai alai contracts?
