la troienne and mumtaz mahal immediately jump to mind.

more modern?

how about hasili? dam of cacique, intercontinental, dansili, banks hill, and heat haze--all gr 1 winners.

toussaud, weekend surprise have been mentioned--but how about personal ensign? not just a great racer, but a blue hen mare as well.

The thing about Mumtaz Mahal and La Troienne is that they're still very influential today ... 75 years later.

The more modern broodmares ... like the great ones you've mentioned ... will have to stand the test of time before they can join them in the pantheon.

and i'll tell ya, it's very tough to find any mares tail female from the 6-e family back to Selene. Selene is a huge influence for good racing.

Exactly ... Selene's influence has been huge ... but it's mostly through her sons ... and it's sadly fading away ... or at least just boiling down to the Native Dancer line.

She's probably #3 on the list of great broodmares.

interesting about Somethingroyal in that she was the oldest mare to produce a triple crown champion, Secretariat at the age of 18 i think. she only made one appearance on the track. unplaced at Saratoga.
