As a catcher for my whole high school career, I was all about someone trying to barrell me over. I sat out one game (reasons we won't discuss on here) and the backup catcher got plowed, was sooo pissed.

ACTUALLY,It's the 1st rule(blocking the plate) I would change(if I had my say.) ..and tonight is a great example why it is stupid to allow blocking the plate. The guy beats the throw. The catcher drops the ball. The baserunner would easily have touched home if not for having his hand spiked......After all that, they want him called out? I just don't think you should be able to block one particular base. The only thing that should have been used to keep him from getting to the plate was the catchers glove(with ball in it.)That's the way I've always felt about it(even when Scioscia was blocking plate for us.)Since it's allowed(blocking the plate,) he probably should have destroyed Barrett, but then he may have tore up his own shoulder, too. This is reason #4 why it's a stupid rule(injuries promoted by allowing plate blocking.)
