I thought the same too but looking at the replay, it really wasn't his fault, the hole just didn't open and when the running started, the other horses dragged Salute with him. Good run by him. Just had a $20 pick 3 ticket hit in Race 9.
Alive on a $15 pick 4 ticket to the 7 and 10
