Tough crowd.

1st race was a comebacker from a 14-month layoff giving the winner a lot of weight.

2nd race was on the junk track against a grade one race winner who had an affinity for the stuff.

I understand your point though but do u really want to compare First Defence to Surf Cat here?

I think everyone is overrating the lure of the BC Dirt Mile. The top horses there are going to be horses like Wanderin Boy. You aren't going to get the Hard Spuns, Lawyer Rons, and Discreet Cats. It is an ungraded race that isn't even on BC Day and anyone with a chance in the BC Classic is going to take it.

you might be right at that, but then again, i've seen some real monster dirt horses bypass the bc entirely because they had little hope of getting 10 and were just not suited for going 6.

I will not compare at this point in their careers First Defence to Surf Cat, but if both are entered in this years BC sprint my money goes on First Defense. I would much rather have a horse that can press a 43 and change half and is proven on the Monmouth Dirt than a horse that will have to make up 6-8 lengths in the last quarter mile while having to weave through a half dozen horses on the Monmouth speed favoring dirt (and I am sure it will be "souped up" on BC day) and short stretch. Oh and I would also like the 20-1 or so I would get on First Defence vs the 5-1 Surf Cat would be.
