From Sporting Life... Happy retirement, good boy. Nayyir Bows Out (no author listed) Multiple-winning veteran Nayyir has been retired by trainer Gerard Butler. Twice successful in the Lennox Stakes at Goodwood, the nine-year-old had shown little in three outings this season and the Irishman admitted it was a difficult decision to make. "Unfortunately, we have retired Nayyir and it is the end of a great career," said Butler. "It really choked me when I told the owners what I thought they should do. We've done it before something went wrong, he just doesn't seem to be enjoying it as much anymore. "I would never have forgiven myself if something had gone wrong in a race or in training - at least he retires sound. "I will speak to the owner but I would imagine he will go to a place like Moorcroft (Racehorse Welfare Centre). I don't think he would be suited to lounging around my yard." The son of Indian Ridge won nine races in all, picking up £570,612 in win and place prize money.
