If the picther throws at the head they get thrown out so what are they suppose to do. I say ban all protective equipment and get out of the way. I don't mind a guy wearing the shin guards. I could even see the use of an elbow wrap similar to batting gloves, but these hockey like elbow pads, and alleged mechanical devices should be banned.
