well, no wonder war emblem gave them a hard time! this is outrageous, to cover that many mares in a season!

maybe they should get War Emblem a little drunk before he covers mares.. I know the ole' beer goggles have helped lots of people get a little.

A stallion has to 'stop' his mares on the first cover every time is he is going to get such a huge number of them in foal. That means the vets have to be exactly right about whether the mare has a follicle that is ready or not as well as the stallion being extremely fertile. And it becomes grueling work, having to cover mares 3 or4 times a day. If he won't be shuttling (and I doubt the Japanese will ever let him out of the country), then he may have time to recover his strength for next year.

This was George Washington's problem, by the way. Coolmore has the philosophy that he's got to stop them the first cover so they can rake in the big bucks (more fees for more mares). But GW was not co-operating; he got some in foal on the first cover but would probably need a second or third for the rest. Back when 40-foal crops were the norm, the farm could do that and still get the fee, but these days they demand volume.

I'm sure there will be a couple of U.S. farms interested in working with him if he comes cheap enough.

When that (likely) fails, then Old Friends is well equipped to handle retired stallions. He might be a bit nasty for the Horse Park...

Well, that stinks...

If they ended up gelding War Emblem, he'd probably calm down a bit. (Ouch.)

I'm sure it would help!!

What is John Henry, 32? it is possible he won't last forever... I'm sure Derby winners Funny Cide and WE would have first dibs at duking it out for space if the owners wanted them at the horse park...

Golly, if I was a Buddhist, I'd know what I'd like to be reincarnated as.
And, if I ever stumbled into a pharmacy, how do you say "Super size that viagra" in horse-speak?

Fantasy is always better than reality. Ask Sunday Silence, End Sweep, etc., how they physically fared mounting and breeding 230 mares a year, every year in and out for 10 years. They didn't last long... one died from broken withers falling of a mare(probably exhausted) and the other (SS) they tried to keep alive with a broken leg, laminitis etc.

Let's see how long Deep Impact lasts breeding 230 mares year after year...

Reese,
I was attempting to make "humor".
And, yes, I've been inside the breeding shed many times.
It's dangerous for the stallion, the mare, and especially for the people that handle the whole "date".
I'd never, EVER want to come back as a "teaser". That poor guy thinks he's going to score, then back to his stall....blue balls and all.
